Quality Improvement
The Children's Hospital of Illinois strives to provide the highest quality, safest, most efficient and cost-effective care possible to those we serve in accordance with the mission of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Each patient care area in the Children's Hospital of Illinois has a unit-level quality improvement council which measures, monitors and analyzes quality indicator data as well as responding to issues raised by the care team. These councils are led by nurses and are comprised of multidisciplinary team members who provide patient care on the unit. Each council is responsible (omit for developing action plans) to facilitate and ensure quality care is being provided to our patients.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has participated in the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) since 1992. The VON is a quality improvement collaborative that facilitates sharing of outcome data and developing best practices with other neonatal intensive care units across the United States and 28 other countries. Participation in this collaborative has led to many improvements in the quality of care provided to our patients.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has participated in the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) clinical database and quality improvement focus groups for years. Participation in the database and focus groups allows our physicians and staff to benchmark and collaborate with other pediatric intensive care units across the United States to ensure we are providing high quality care to our patients.
We also engage in Process Improvement through 6 Sigma projects. Our goal is perfect care and access for all children in Central Illinois.
