University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria is a nationally respected school that educates tomorrow's physicians, while emphasizing scholarship and research. The College of Medicine, established in 1970, completed a strategic planning process two years ago and is now embarking on a major revision of its curriculum. The goal is to foster the education of a generalist physician and encourage more students to enter primary care disciplines to serve the state of Illinois and our community in the next century.

The College of Medicine is looking to the future with programs that embody a comprehensive approach to education by addressing the needs of the individual through medical school and residency training, as well as offering continuing medical education opportunities for the practitioner. Its students learn that they are part of an interdisciplinary health care team responsible for patient care management.

The other equally important arena for the College of Medicine is the pursuit of scholarship and research. The faculty and students continue to be actively involved in basic biological and clinical research.

The success of its educational programs is a reflection of the collaborative relationship with its two primary affiliated teaching hospitals, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center being one of those two. In addition, numerous other institutions in Central Illinois contribute to the education of its students.
